KeptChat is a notification-based messenger companion app that helps you keep track of messages across multiple messaging platforms. This Privacy Policy explains what data KeptChat collects, how it is stored, and how it is used.
KeptChat presents its required disclosures and optional diagnostic choice before notification access is requested. Advertising choices are managed through Google's consent platform where required.
2. Information We Collect
KeptChat may collect the following types of information:
- Notification content — message text, sender name, and timestamps from supported messaging apps
- Media files — images, videos, and other media shared through notifications
- Crash reports (optional) — stack traces, app and OS version, device model, and related diagnostics sent through Firebase Crashlytics only when you enable crash reporting
- Advertising and device data — Google Mobile Ads may process IP address, ad or app-set identifiers, product interactions, and diagnostics for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention
- App installation identifier — Firebase Remote Config uses a Firebase installation ID to return app configuration
- Push notification token (optional) — Firebase Cloud Messaging creates a device token only when you opt in to KeptChat product updates and notices
3. How We Store Data
All message data is stored locally on your device. KeptChat does NOT transmit your messages or notification data to any external server.
- Messages and metadata are stored in a local Room database on your device
- Media files are saved to your device's local storage
- No message content is uploaded to cloud servers or shared with third parties
4. Third-Party Services
KeptChat integrates the following third-party services, each of which may collect data according to their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob — serves advertisements and may collect your advertising ID and device information. Google Privacy Policy
- Google User Messaging Platform — displays and stores applicable advertising privacy choices
- Firebase Remote Config — retrieves app configuration and uses a Firebase installation identifier. Firebase Privacy and Security
- Firebase Crashlytics (optional) — sends crash reports and diagnostics only after you opt in. You can turn this off in KeptChat settings. Firebase Privacy and Security
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (optional) — delivers KeptChat product updates and notices only after you opt in. Turning it off in Settings disables auto-initialization and deletes the app's messaging token.
5. Permissions
KeptChat requires the following permissions to function:
- Notification Listener Service — required to read notifications from messaging apps so that KeptChat can capture and store messages
- Query All Packages (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES) — used to identify and display supported source apps
- Photos and videos / legacy storage access — used to show or save media you choose to manage, depending on Android version
- Display over other apps (optional) — used only if you enable bubble previews
6. Data Retention
Your data is stored on your device and persists until you choose to delete it through the app or uninstall KeptChat. We do not retain any of your message data on external servers.
7. Children's Privacy
KeptChat is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data through the app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete your stored messages and media files at any time through the app settings
- Revoke notification access permissions through your device settings
- Enable or disable optional Crashlytics reporting in KeptChat settings
- Enable or disable optional KeptChat product updates and notices in Settings
- Review or withdraw applicable Google advertising privacy choices in KeptChat settings
- Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically for any changes.
